Marvin was born on August 1, 1928, in Detroit. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude and Rebecca (Amore) Gilbert. He met and married the love of his life, Madgelean Birchfield. They were happily married for 44 years until her passing in 1993. Marvin would begin his career at General Motors as a Power Engineer until his retirement in 1989. Shortly after his retirement, Marvin began his new career in community service, where he would help as many people as he possibly could by providing transportation to those in need. Whether it was driving others to appointments or to the grocery store, Marvin believed he was put on this earth by God to take care of others, and that is what he aspired to do. Marvin was a loving father and grandfather. He completely doted on his grandchildren. His family was of the utmost importance and he would do anything for any of them.
Marvin was gentle, kind and a man of sincere faith and unconditional love. In his free time, he could be found duck hunting at fish point in Saginaw, on the Saginaw Bay, fishing, traveling across the United States, or just being outdoors. He loved to watch the sunrise and sunset. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Left to cherish his memory are his seven children: Michael (Ruth) Gilbert, Marva (Thomas) Baier, Patricia Weir, William (Karen) Gilbert, Steven (Colette) Gilbert, Kevin (Pam Biggs) Gilbert, Jeffrey (Rena) Gilbert and special son Mark Mankowski; 13 much-loved grandchildren: Michael (Ronda) Gilbert, Rex (Jenny) Gilbert, Amy Aris, Brandon Hawley, Nicole (Ken) Alexander, William (Peggy) Gilbert, Jessica (Ron) Davis, Steven (Amber) Gilbert, Shelby (Scott) Harmon, Shannon (Eric) Hardy, Blaine Gilbert, Benjamin (Joslyn) Gilbert, Kaitlyn Gilbert, and Easton Clemons; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Madgelean, siblings: Doris (Robert) Wright, Babe (Tom) Gravelle, brother-in-law Arthur Pesinski; son: Terry Gilbert.
