Obituary of Florence Miriam Wells
Age 91, died peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2019, at Vassar Fields Assisted Living, Frankenmuth Rd., Vassar, Michigan. She was born on the family farm on October 31, 1927, in Denmark Township near Vassar, Michigan. She was the middle child of Joseph and Grace (Thurston) Wells. Florence received her elementary education in the Garner School (a one-room country school ) and graduated from Vassar High School in 1945. She graduated from Albion College and then the University of Michigan with a masters degree in Library Science. Florence worked as a registered public librarian for 50 years; in Pontiac (5 years) and Detroit (45 years), before she retired in 2000 & moved back to Vassar. She loved to read and to travel and to share those loves with her family. Florence was a member of the Vassar First United Methodist Church for 78 years; following retirement, she became active in Worship, United Methodist Women, Monday Niter’s & Bible studies. Florence has been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star since 1949.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Ruth (Wells) Krug
A memorial service to honor Florence’s life will take place at 11:00 am, on Saturday, October 12, 2019, at the Vassar First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 11, 2019, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Vassar from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Friday evening, family and friends will gather at the funeral home at 7:00 pm for an Order of Eastern Star Service, conducted by the Millington #390 OES Chapter. On Saturday, visitation will be at the Vassar First United Methodist Church from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. Memorial donations may be directed to the Vassar First United Methodist Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.
