Obituary of Donald W Asher
Age 87, of Vassar, died Thursday, September 5, 2019, at Ascension St. Mary’s in Saginaw, Michigan. Per Donald’s wishes cremation has taken place. Arrangements were entrusted to Martin Funeral, Cremation, & Tribute Services. A memorial service will be held in the Spring of 2020, with burial in Riverside Cemetery at that time.
Donald was born July 31, 1932, in Caro, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard and Sarah (Robinson) Asher. Raised in Caro, he was educated locally, graduating from Caro High School. Donald proudly served his country in the United States Army. He would continue his education at Central Michigan University, earning a bachelors and master’s degree in education.
Donald and Kathleen Pierce were united in marriage in 1957, and she predeceased him in 2015. Working in education, as a teacher, drivers training instructor, coach and administrator at Vassar High School, Donald retired in 1990. He would go on to serve at West Palm Community College where he held an advisory position. Donald received many awards for his outstanding service in education.
In his free time, Donald enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, dining out, sports and long drives with his wife. Donald touched the lives of many in the Vassar Community and West Palm Beach, Florida.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: David Asher and companion, Lorrie Wilson, and Diane and husband, Kenneth Wessner; grandchildren: Samantha Groen, Maxime Groen, Julian Asher, Elizabeth “Mimi” Asher, Justine Annab, Marshall Annab, Trinity Rose Annab, Sarah Wessner and Eric Wessner; brother, William Asher; sisters-in-law, Jessie Mueller and Margery O’Neil and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathleen, and sister, Peggy Randall.
