II'm pretty sure you were my favorite teacher. I left some balance figures in your classroom back in 1984. I've tried finding you over the years, I wish I had found you sooner. I kicked the farthest home run in kickball because of you. And I still remember you giving me words of encouragement before a tug-o-war match. "Give 'em hell!" Was you choice of words, it was appropriate because I haven't stop giving people hell.
I'm sorry that I didn't find you sooner, I really wanted to reconnect.
Rest in Power

Speaking to Gary a few days after my mothers funeral, he said he was happy to honor her playing as she went to Heaven.

Hugs and Kisses.I Love You Grandpa. My condolences to the family and dear friends .

Not long after arriving in Mt Morris to teach , Gary walked into the office of First Baptist in Mt Morris asking to speak to the pastor( my dad). Gary heard they had a pipe organ and asked to play it. A little skeptical, Dad opened the organ and listened to Gary play. Realizing Gary’s talent, he was encouraged to come and play when available and Gary was asked to be the permanent organist. His talent was truly a blessing

Gary and I grew up on Wyatt Street in Greenville, IL. We became friends in high school as we performed in musicals. When he was only 15, he produced a variety show as a fund raiser for our community hospital. Somehow, he got permission to use the high school theater and we actually had a good crowd the first year and a full house the next year. He planned nearly every act and practiced with each of us who performed. He didn’t miss a detail...even the tilt of your chin mattered to him! He was very creative and might re-write a section of a song to make it more interesting! He always made me laugh, even when he changed my act!
We called ourselves “The King Family”, and Gary was “Father King”. He made some great memories for all of us. Father King will be missed, but not forgotten!

Gary and i went to church together in our youth. We were good friends in high school and had a select lunch table. We always had a good time. Many days were spent in the King living room watching his impersonations of Jonathan Winters characters and Judy Garland. Mary made us home made pizzas from a box except she added an egg to the crust and hamburger on top. Gary played for my wedding. He moved so far away, but in the last few years we reconnected on Facebook. He was a unique person and a friend I will never forget.

I remember the good times we had when Gary was my accompanist during solo ensemble way back in the early 1980s. He was a lifelong friend. I would see him playing piano at Sandy Brewer’s Christmas shows at the UM Theater. I would always give him a big hug and we would remember the good times and catch up on things. He played for my wedding too. A great person and friend!!

My mother Orpha Baldwin spoke highly of Gary when he helped out with the choir at First Baptist in Mt Morris years ago. I also remember him from MM schools but I was graduating shortly after he came to MM. Sorry for your loss. He was very talented.
