Obituary of Peggy Sue Cabala
Age 79, of Montrose, died Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at Heartland Fostrian Manor in Flushing. A funeral service will take place at 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Martin Funeral, Cremation, and Tribute Services in Mount Morris. Pastor Kevin Dixson will officiate, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Peggy’s family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends on Saturday from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Peggy was born October 6, 1939, in Stewart, Mississippi, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John William and Mosetta (Weeks) Simpson. Peggy moved to Michigan in approximately 1942. She associated her self with a local group of women who called themselves “The Neighborhood Five.” This group consisted of the following women: Sandy, Judy, Carolyn, Nancy, and Laura. Peggy was a proud employee of Kroger corporation, working as a front end manager, she worked for Kroger for many years until her retirement. When Peggy was not working or taking care of her family, she could be found playing bingo, reading, and gardening. She loved gardening! She tended to both live and silk flowers. Peggy was a people person, and she loved to sing. She was a beautiful spirit that will be missed.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Allen and wife, Mychelle Phillips, Tracie and late husband, Mark Mills, Terri and husband, Alexander Clark, Genevieve Clark, Dr. Peter Cabala, and Ed and wife, Sunny Cabala, 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, with one on the way!; brother, Art, and wife, Flora Spencer; former daughter-in-law, Jennifer Cabala and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Edwin, whom she considered the love of her life; son, Danny Phillips; brothers: J.W., Victor, Harold, and Doug; sisters: Billie, Mary, and Sarah; ex-husband, Albert Phillips; fiancé, Milt Wild and her dog, Henry.
