Obituary of June Wilma Smith

Please share a memory of June to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Age 93 of Grand Blanc, formerly of Mt. Morris, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 12, 2019.  Funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Martin Funeral, Cremation and Tribute Service in Mt. Morris. Mr. Brad McFaul and Mr. Jim Watson will conduct the service with burial to follow in Sunset Hills Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and again on Saturday, from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am.  Memorial donations may be directed to the Mt. Morris Church of Christ for the Nigerian Ministries.

June was born June 1, 1926, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert and Maude (Johnson) Gowin.  On May 22, 1945, June married the love of her life, John “J.T.” Smith. and together, they shared 54 years of marriage, before he preceded her in death on November 22, 1999.  As a busy wife and homemaker, June’s proudest accomplishment is raising her four beautiful daughters.  June was devoted to the Lord and actively served her church family at the Mt. Morris Church of Christ.  When not busy with family and friends, she enjoyed crocheting, crafts, cooking, and reading.  As her children became older, June worked for Rockwell’s Hardware as well as the Mt. Morris Schools as a Teacher’s Aide.  After the death of J.T., June accepted a job at Martin Funeral Home, where she treated families as if they were her own, helping to ease their grief.

Left to cherish her memory are four daughters: Sharon and husband, Brad McFaul, Carolyn and husband, Timothy Kinney, Patti and husband, Ted July, and Tammy and husband, Ted Rogers; grandchildren, Matthew and wife, Lisa July, Michelle Mitchell, Brian and wife, Ling Kinney, Stephanie Kinney, Joel July, Sarah Felty, Theo and wife, Julia Rogers, and Craig Rogers; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces; nephews and special friends.  June was preceded in death by her husband, J.T.; grandson, Nathan John Kinney; son-in-law, Alec July; and brother, E.J. Gowin.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Staff of American House in Grand Blanc and Medical Team Hospice, especially, Michelle, Jolene, and Mary for the care and compassion they showed our mom.
