Obituary of David Norris
Age 78, of Bethany, Illinois, formerly of Clio, died Sunday, April 7, 2019, in the Mattoon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Mattoon, Illinois. A funeral service will take place at 12:00 PM, Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at Martin Funeral Cremation and Tribute Services of Mt. Morris. Burial to follow at Flint Memorial Park, with graveside Military Honors conducted by the Gordon R. Bennett VFW Post #1452 and American Legion Post # 158 of Clio. David’s family will be present to receive guests on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and Wednesday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 12:00 PM. Those desiring may make contributions to the Danville Veteran’s Hospital, Chaplain Services, 1900 East Main Street, Danville, Illinois 61832 or the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
David was born May 23, 1940, in Flint, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Beulah (Kingsbury) Norris. He worked as a millwright for General Motors in Flint and was a member of the Local UAW #599. David answered the call of his country and served in the Vietnam conflict as a member of the U.S. Army. Due to his selflessness and sacrifice, he suffered from the effects of Agent Orange later in life. He and Ruby Chunn were united in marriage on September 11, 1961, and she preceded him in death on March 27, 2005. He then married Joann Meredith in October of 2005 in Mt. Zion, Illinois.
David is survived by his wife, Joann Norris; son, Chuck and wife, Dena Norris; grandsons: Jacob Book-Hart and Justin Norris; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ruby, two infant children, and sister, Violet Law.
