Obituary of Allen Lloyd McLain
Age 71, of Davison, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Hurley Medical Center. A funeral celebrating Allen’s life will take place 10:30 am, Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Pastor Mark Clark Sr. and Pastor Daniel Gordon will officiate with burial to follow in Great Lakes National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm and again on Tuesday from 9:30 am until the time of service at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Betty McLain for the Leukemia Foundation. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Allen was born on August 9, 1947, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Paul and Ila (Crannie) McLain. He and Betty Selzler were united in marriage on October 31, 1967. Allen served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in April 1970. He was the owner and operator of Intercity Collison in Flint, worked as an insurance adjuster, owned and operated an appraising company in Atlanta, Georgia, and retired from Randy Wise Buick as body shop manager in 2011. He and Betty helped foster 35 children for many years. Allen faithfully attended Home Baptist Church in Mt. Morris. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, playing chess, going to the casino, and going to the races at Auto City Speedway where they raced a car.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife: Betty McLain; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law: Dewanie and Janis Selzler of Eatonville, Washington; Diane Gildner of Davison, Michigan; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ila McLain, two brothers: David McLain and Lawrence and wife, Jane McLain; a half-sister: Rachel Barnes; niece: Ila Corlew; and three infant brothers and one infant sister.
