Obituary of Shirley Ann Hopkins
Age 79, of Mt. Morris, died peacefully Monday, March 11, 2019, at Medi Lodge of Montrose. Funeral Service will be held 9:30 am, Thursday, March 14, 2019, at Martin Funeral, Cremation, & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Pastor Jason Crum will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and on Thursday, from 9:00 am until time of service at 9:30 am. Shirley will then be taken to her hometown of Valley View, Arkansas, for services and burial at McDaniel Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the Genesee County Humane Society, or East Flint Church of the Nazarene. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Shirley was born April 25, 1939, in Valley View, Arkansas, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William and Virgie (Gray) Magee. She and Everett Hopkins were united in marriage on May 23, 1993. Shirley worked for many years as a hairdresser, before going to work at General Motors, Fisher Body, where she retired in 1986. Shirley, “The Lovely One,” enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, camping, and traveling. She was a member of the East Flint Church of the Nazarene and the UAW # 581.
Shirley leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Everett; step children, Phillip and wife Patricia Hopkins and Sharon Melton; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Paul and wife Arita Magee; and many special nieces and nephews that she loved as her own children. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Minnie Belle “Scottie” Lemonds and her infant sister, Evelyn Maxine Magee.
