Obituary of Willie Samuel Loper
Willie Samuel age 87, of Flint, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019, in Wellbridge of Grand Blanc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 Noon, Friday, March 15, 2019, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev Fr. Roy Horning officiating with burial to follow at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Willie's family will be present at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris, to receive guests on Thursday, from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm; On Thursday evening, the family will greet guests at 4:00 pm. On Friday morning, Willie will be taken to the church to lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 12:00 noon. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.
Willie was born in Decatur, Mississippi, on January 22, 1932, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George and Ina (Blalock) Loper. He married the love of his life Lola on February 16, 1953, in St. Louis, Missouri. He worked as a truck driver for AC Rochester for 33 years until retirement in 1992. He proudly served in the United States Army until receiving his honorable discharge. In his free time, Willie enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, traveling, boating, watching sports especially the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 66 years, Lola; children: Winfred and wife, Cheree Loper, Harvey and wife, Michele Loper, Charlotte Loper, Ira and wife, Cynthia Loper; 12 grandchildren: Rhosonda Marzette, (Lamont), Erika Loper, Sharritta Taylor, Jerell Loper, Danecia Loper, Stephanie Loper, Jarett Loper, Toccarlos James, Jovan Burleson, Bianca Barfield, Justin Loper, and Kendra Loper; 23 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; 2 sisters-in-law, Marilyn Pitts and Anita Evans (Willie) and a host of nieces; nephews and cousins;
Willie was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ina Loper; son, Derwin Loper; 5 sisters, Lillie Mae Hyche, Lucille N. Thompson, Beatrice Gunn, Claudia Bernice Jones, and Hazel Oliphant; 3 brothers, E.J. Lamar, and Leon Loper. Willie also preceded his brother, James Loper in death on 3-7-19.
