I was saddened to read of Mr. McKenney's passing today. Living next door to the berry farm I worked for them many summers, he taught me how to drive a stick shift on his new truck. My son, Josh, also worked for them summers and he taught him all about raising chickens. He still raises chickens. He was a wonderful and sweet man who was always nice to me and taught me how to work hard.

John & Patsy I have many fond memories of growing up as a young man and working for your Dad & Mom, especially your Dad he was a hard working man and he taught me much about hard work. I remember riding my bike to the farm to start work @ 7am and sometimes ride home in the dark during the busiest times @ the farm. I particularly remember going to Romeo to help the Bowerman's with their apple crop one fall, it was quite a road trip back then for a 14 yr old , Sunday night came and your dad & mom decided to stay into the following week. They sent me home in the old brown LTD your mom drove, me with no driving experience to speak of other than around our home and at the berry farm. I could not bring myself to tell them I had no driver's license, just got in and headed north on M-53 , when you worked on the berry farm you drove whatever, wherever, whenever needed! license or not, those were the good old days and I could go on with many stories of working and playing alongside your dad in my formative years. I am a better man for having known him! He was a good Fisherman too and later in our lives we had the opportunity to fish together many times during the winter fishing season. His was a life well lived. May our Father in Heaven comfort your hearts in your time of loss.
