Obituary of Martha Benway
Age 77, of Flint, died Friday, August 10, 2018, at McLaren hospital in Flint. A funeral service will take place Thursday, August 16, 2018, at 11:00 am at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Pastor Dale Lewis to officiate. Martha’s family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm.
Martha was born on June 17, 1941, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Charlie and Gertrue (Welch) League. She married Dale Benway, on June 2, 1962, in Grand Blanc, MI. Their union bore two children Dale Benway II and Cheryl. Martha started her career in retail working for Federal’s department store and T.J. Maxx. In her 30s, she became an avid bowler, up until the end of the last season. She bowled in the Senior Olympics. When she was not working, she could be found with her grandkids or working in her flower garden. Martha was known as the community mom in her children’s youth. Her love for children extended into her work at Armstrong Middle School as a lunchroom monitor, where she was well known as Grandma.
Martha is survived by her children: Dale Benway II, Cheryl Benway; grandchildren: Dale Benway III, Natalya Benway; siblings: Opaline Wilson, Wilma, and husband, Bob Ballew, Helen and husband, Harold Johnson, Jerry and wife Annette League; sister-in-law, Glenda League; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale, siblings: Therman League, Calmus D. League, Charlie League Jr.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Kearsley Christmas Charity Fund.
