Obituary of Ruth Stevens
Age 80, passed away early morning on July 28, 2018, at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at 11:00 am at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Fairgrove. Ruth’s family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends on Tuesday from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm and again on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am.
Ruth was born in Caro on April 12, 1938, to Mr. and Mrs. Harry and Marry Josephine (Potroski) Hess. Ruth lived a full, vibrant life and was a hard worker who never sat still. At the time of her death, she was tearing out the carpet to tile her bedroom floor.
Ruth’s path of hard work began at United Plastics; she worked there for 20 years until she transitioned to Zender’s in Frankenmuth, where she worked another 20 years. It was during this time she was inspired to go back to school to become a Certified Nurse’s aid. She worked as a CNA for ten years at Caro Hospital, until her retirement. Later in life, she served as a foster grandma at McComb elementary school in Caro, and a member of the Tuscola County Search and Rescue team, where her nickname was “Generator.” Ruth was an avid hunter, until later in life when she became an animal advocate and put down her rifle. Ruth was not all work and no play. She was a member of her parent's band “Sun Downers,” where she played the Bass guitar.
Ruth is survived by her children: Linda Marie Stevens, Clarence Dale and wife, Tina Mary Stevens, Connie Jo and husband, Donald Garner, David Allen and wife, Tasha Stevens; step-children: Lonnie Lee Magurie, Stacie Green, Deanne Maguire; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren, with one on the way; sister, Janet and husband, Jimmy Sinclare; brother Fred and wife, Alberta Hess.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husbands John McGuire, and Clarence Theodore Stevens; six sisters, and four brothers.
