Obituary of Burton Ira Jones

Of Flushing, age 79, died Sunday, October 20, 2013, at River Ridge Assisted Living. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at the North Baptist Church in Flint 4004 W. Lennon Rd, Flint Township, Michigan 48507. Pastor Todd Meece will officiate with burial to follow in Flushing Cemetery. Burton's family will be present at the Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris on Tuesday to receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. On Wednesday, Burton will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to North Baptist Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Burton was born April 2, 1934, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira and Ursle (Hogsten) Jones. He received his Bachelor's degree from Wheaton College in Illinois, a Master's degree from Northern Baptist Seminary as well as the University of Michigan-Flint. Burton began his career in education in the Mt. Morris School District before leaving for Flint Christian. Eventually, he ended his career as principal at Pinehurst Elementary in Mt. Morris. He was the Past President of the Mt. Morris Kiwanis Club and the Past Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis Club for Genesee County. Burton was a Pastor at Birch Run Baptist Church. He also had his own television show while carrying out his pastoral duties at the First Baptist Church of Corunna, and participated on "Ask the Pastor" on the TCT Network. He was on the executive committee of Genesee County Child Evangelism. Burton was an avid U of M football fan, he enjoyed listening to music, traveling and driving his "Cadillacs". Left to cherish his memory is his sister, Patricia Jones; cousins Robert Plass, Sylvia Hepburn, Susan Rodriguez, Linda TerBurgh, Davadia Rincker, Dallas Peadro, Janice Carlyle, Anita Thompson; special friends Bill Evans, Lavern Clarke and Mike Young; many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Burton's family would like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Todd Meece of North Baptist Church and the entire staff of River Ridge Assisted Living.
