Obituary of Robert A. Erickson

Of Vassar, age 75, died Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at his home. The funeral service will take place 11:00am, Saturday, January 30, 2010 at the Grace Lutheran Church of Vassar. Pastor Joe Wold will officiate with burial to follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Roberts family will be present to receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home Aa" Vassar on Friday from 2:00pm until 8:00pm. On Saturday morning, Robert will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00am until time of service at 11:00am. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Grace Lutheran Church Addition Fund or to Covenant VNA Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Robert was born August 9, 1934 in Burton, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eric and Bertha (Boughan) Erickson. He and Norma Wight were united in marriage July 9, 1960 in Saginaw. Robert graduated from Vassar High School in 1953 and went onto serve in the United States Army, stationed in Germany before receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1959. He worked for General Motors for 45 years before retiring in 1999. Robert was a member of UAW Local #651. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming and constructing his own buildings. Robert leaves to cherish his memory wife, Norma; daughter and her husband; two sons; one grandson; and sister, Darlene Leaman. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, brother, and a granddaughter.
