Obituary of Elbert Andrew Esckelson
of Mayville, age 88, died Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at McLaren Lapeer Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. The funeral service will take place 1:00 pm, Friday, June 15, 2018, at Martin Funeral Home in Vassar with burial to follow in Fremont Township Cemetery. Elbert’s family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm.
Elbert was born May 1, 1930, in Vassar, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher and Izora (Cole) Esckelson. He and Marie were united in marriage in 1951. Elbert served in the United States Marines during the Korean War, serving from 1951 to 1953. He worked for General Motors Ternstedt plant. Elbert was a member of the Vassar Eagles and Mayville VFW. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time on the farm and spending time with his family.
Left to cherish his memory, three children: Rick and wife, Cindy Esckelson, Chrise and wife, Connie Esckelson, Vicki O’Neal; 9 grandchildren: Laura and husband, Denis Cabala, Rocky and wife, Amy, Roy and wife, Erin, Rachel and husband, Jim Altscheffel, Robin and husband, Randy, Chrise and wife, Ashley, Elberta, Kristin and husband, Victor Wheeler, Nicole and husband, William Cogsell, Chelsay Osborn; 19 great-grandchildren: Brady, Nicholas, Seth, Brandon, Emily, Tegan, Nichole, Chelsea, Tommy, Makayla, Paige, Nichole, Gaige, Christopher, Victor, Carter, Amelia, Zoey, Aden; great-great-granddaughter: Liliana; 2 brothers: Lee Esckelson, Dick and wife, Thelma; and sister-in-law: Betty Esckelson.
Elbert was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, parents, three brothers: Larry, Leon, Max, three sisters: Irene, Grace, Maxine, and sister-in-law Barb.
