Obituary of Vernon Arlie Coop Sr.
Age 87, of Flint, died, Thursday, June 7, 2018, at his residence peacefully with family. The funeral celebrating Vernon’s life will take place 1:00 pm, Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Pastor Sarah LaRose Nettell will officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather at the funeral home on Monday, June 11, 2018, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Tuesday from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm.
Vernon was born on July 10, 1930, in Camas, Washington, the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Arlie and Janet (Naismith) Coop. He served in the United States Army. Vernon graduated from Port Huron High School class of 1949. He was united in marriage to Donna Mae Houser on April 1, 1954, in Port Huron, Michigan. He worked at Fisher Body for 29 years as a Machine Repairman and Electrician, retiring from Buick in 1989. He was a member of UAW #599. Vernon enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time outdoors, but above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Left to cherish his memory are wife: Donna Mae (Houser) of 64 years; sister: Irene Gillis of Florida; Daughter: Arlyce M Fitch of Grand Blanc; son: Vernon A. Coop Jr. and wife Debbie of Burton; daughter: Ann L. Coop and Jerry of Mt. Morris; daughter; Donna J. Short and husband Tom of Flint; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, Arlie and Janet Coop, sister, Florence Durrant, and two daughters, Gail V. Coop and Chari I. Sweet.
