Obituary of Neil Bernard Hess

Of Vassar, age 90, died Sunday, May 20, 2018, at his home. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar. Reverend Michele Hile will officiate with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery. Neil’s family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and again on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Memorial contributions in Neil’s Name can be made to Watrousville Methodist Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Neil was born February 23, 1928, in Vassar, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William and Vera (Garner) Hess. He and Wilda Barrons were united in marriage on July 14, 1951. Neil worked as a farmer for many years before retiring. Neil enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, camping, farming, crop touring, and playing euchre.

Left to cherish his memory, five children; Rick (Marilyn) Hess, Jed Hess, Shelley Kischnick, Sheena (Jeff) Foster, Jan (Barb) Hess; 18 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; and a brother: Bill Hess.

Neil was preceded in death by his wife, Wilda, parents, and sister, Laura McAlpine.
