Obituary of Roger L. Walker
Roger Walker passed away after a brief but courageous battle with cancer on Friday, February 9, 2018, at the age of 79 years old. The funeral service will be held 1:00 pm. Thursday, February 15, 2018, at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris; with burial to follow at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Roger’s family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Thursday, from 12:00 noon till the time of service at 1:00 pm. On Wednesday evening, family and friends with gather for a Masonic Service at 7:00 pm conducted under the auspices of Masonic Lodge #517.
Roger was born on February 4, 1939, in Fruithurst, Alabama to Herron and Annie (Rowell) Walker. He grew up with six brothers and sisters.
On December 29, 1961, he would marry his wife Mary Sue (Golden). He worked at General Motors as a pipefitter. In his free time, Roger enjoyed; horseback riding and was an active member of The Shiawassee Trail Riders and the Michigan Harness Horseman Association. Roger was also a proud member of Masonic Lodge #517, where he will be remembered for his coleslaw that he made for fish fries.
Roger is survived by His loving wife Mary Sue, their three children: Angela “Angie” Scott, fiancé Fred Mason: James “Jim”, and his wife, Melinda Walker; and Steven “Steve” Walker; four grandchildren: Katrina Haines, fiancé Eric Tozer; Bryan Donalson, wife Jackie; Kacie Walker; and Sara Walker; four great-grandchildren: Stephanie McMahan; Caleb McMahan; Braden Haines; and Olivia Donalson. He also leaves six brothers and sisters to cherish his memory: Annie Mae Fuqua; Betty Pope, husband Joe; Sonja Robinson; Martin L. Walker, wife Becky; Elmer Lee Walker, wife Patsy; Theresa Jane Betauas, husband Fred.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law Walter Fuqua and Clarence Robinson.
