Obituary of Robert Joseph McKerchie
Age 79, of Mt. Morris, Michigan, died Monday, December 4, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday, December 7, 2017, at 11:00 am, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Roy Horning to officiate with burial to follow in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Robert’s family will receive friends at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris on Wednesday, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. On Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm, family, friends, and parish will gather at the funeral home for a vigil service with sharing of memories following. On Thursday, Robert will be taken to the church to lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Robert’s name can be made to St. Mary Catholic Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and the church.
Robert was born October 26, 1938, in Sault Saint Marie, Michigan, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Roy and Angeline (Talentino) McKerchie. Robert married the love of his life, Rosalie Jakiemiec, on October 31, 1959. Sadly, she preceded him in death on July 6, 2015. Robert worked at Powers High School as a maintenance worker, until retiring in 1998. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, going to the casino, playing cards with his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He also liked spending time at the hunting cabin.
Left to cherish his memory: six children, Tony and wife, Lisa McKerchie, Tom McKerchie, Tim and wife, Eva McKerchie, Terry and wife K-Lynn McKerchie, Tiffany and husband, Chris Brady, and Christina Elmer; 16 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Judy Gilkes and Neva Rosa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Rosalie; parents, brother Jim McKerchie and great-granddaughter Kamryn McKerchie.
