Obituary of Phyllis Gene Heffelfinger
Phyllis (Statler) Heffelfinger of Vassar, age 91, died November 5, 2017, at Wellspring Lutheran Services in Frankenmuth. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions can be made to Michigan Opera Theatre of Detroit. Phyllis was born on March 12, 1926, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Daniel and Mabel (Lehman) Statler. She attended Chambersburg, Pennsylvania public schools graduating with the class of 1943, she then went on to college at the University of Michigan and received her Bachelor's Degree in Education. She and Eugene Heffelfinger were united in marriage on January 29, 1949, in Chambersburg. Phyllis worked 35 years for the Vassar Public Schools as an elementary teacher. She also taught piano lessons for many years. In her spare time, Phyllis enjoyed gardening, sailing, playing the piano and watching U of M football.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Eugene, two children: William Heffelfinger and Sally and husband Karl Pituch.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Elwood.
