Obituary of Donald "Popeye" Rodden

Age 79, of Clio, passed away Friday, November 03, 2017, at his home. A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm, Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at Martin Funeral, Cremation, & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris with burial to follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm, then on Tuesday, from 11:00 am until time of service. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to The American Legion- Carpenter Road, Flint or to the family. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Donald was born March 3, 1938, in Flint, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis and Dorothy (Howard) Rodden. He graduated from Beecher High School in 1956. He was All-State in football, basketball, and baseball. After graduation, he met the love of his life, Betty Lou Darling, at a drive-in. They were united in marriage on September 18, 1959.  Donald loved spending time with his family, playing pool, golfing, and watching sports on TV, especially the Detroit Tigers. He was also an avid softball player for many years. He could be found often at the American Legion on Carpenter Rd., hanging out with friends. He was known as a practical joker but had a heart of gold.

Left to cherish his memory are children: Edward Rodden and girlfriend, Bonnie Streit, Janice Bouchard and fiancé, Steve York, and Kay and husband, Mike Fox; grandchildren: James, Danyelle, Brian, Chelsey, Kristy, Hailey and Karley; great-grandchildren: Caleb, Bailey, Talan, and Levi; special sister, Judy Smith and sister, Diane Haring; nephew, Robert Fortin; special friend, Jan; and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty, brothers, Francis and Edward, sisters, Sherrie and Connie.
