Obituary of R. Byron McCarthy
Age 83, of Clio, died Monday, June 26, 2017, at Wellbridge of Fenton. A memorial service will take place at 5:00 pm on Monday, July 3, 2017, at Martin Funeral, Cremation and Tribute Services in Mt. Morris with Pastor Bruce Billing to officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, July 1, 2017, from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm, on Sunday, July 2, 2017, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm, and 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm, and on Monday from 2:00 pm until time of service at 5:00 pm. Those desiring to make memorial contributions in Byron’s memory may direct them towards the Arthritic Foundation.
Mr. McCarthy was born September 9, 1933, in Hancock, Michigan to the late Patrick J. and Emily Mae (Stapleton) McCarthy. Byron and Rosalie Ratz were united in marriage on May 26, 1972. He was a veteran of the United States Army as a Corporal. Byron was a member of the Clio Country Club, where he had two hole-in-ones on #16 and the American Legion Post #294 in Swartz Creek. He participated for over 50 years with the Buick Open as a Red Cross Volunteer and a long time Financial Plus Credit Union Volunteer. In his spare time, Byron loved to golf, cheer on his University of Michigan, Wolverines, and tell jokes to his family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rosalie McCarthy; five children: Debra L. and husband, James Callaghan, Karen S. and husband, Scott Hinrichs, Michael B. McCarthy, Mary Colleen, and husband, Michael Herringshaw, and Jack P. and wife, Amy McCarthy; eight grandchildren: Tiffany and husband, James Majtyka, Emily Hinrichs, Kelly Hinrichs, Austin Herringshaw, Ryan Herringshaw, Dylan Herringshaw, Joshua and Sophie; four great-grandchildren: Zachary Foreman, Alex Foreman, Vincent Torres, and Riven.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and three brothers.
