Obituary of Dorthea J. Hoyt
Age 95, of Mt. Morris, died Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Maple Woods Manor in Clio. The funeral service will be held 3:00 pm, Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at the Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris; Pastor Bruce Billing to officiate with burial to follow at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Dorthea’s family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends on Sunday, from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm; on Monday, from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm. On Monday evening, family and friends will gather for an Order of the Eastern Star service at 7:00 pm, conducted by O.E.S. 474 in Mt. Morris. On Tuesday morning, Dorthea's family will receive visitors from 9:00 am until the time of service at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Dorthea was born June 8, 1921, in Plainwell, Michigan, she is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William J. and Anna (Clements) Hamilton. She graduated from Mt. Morris High School, class of 1939. She would later continue her education at Eastern Michigan University, receiving her bachelor’s degree in teaching in 1961. She worked as an Elementary school teacher for the Beecher School District for 30 years until her retirement in the early 1980s. She was a Shaklee Distributor for 20 years, and she sold Avon until she was 85. She is a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, O.E.S. 474 in Mt. Morris, and a Lioness for the Mt. Morris Lion’s Club. In her free time, Dorthea enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory, children: Terry (Kathy) Hoyt, Marc (Cindy) Hoyt, Deniece (John) Reynolds, Lonny Hoyt, and former wife, Vickie; eight grandchildren: Kathy (Rick), Donny (Lisa), Amber (Drew), Amanda (PJ), Joi (Bob), Danette (Phillip), Kimberly, and Kris (Phillip); 16 great-grandchildren: Kraig, Katie, Joel, Jarrett, Noah, Zackery (Dana), Alexander, Abrielle (Devon), Carlos (Rachel), Christopher, Winona (Danny), Dylan, Joshua, Kassandra, Little Josh, and Ashley (Rick); nine great-great-grandchildren: Brooklyn, Braydon, Jayceton, Harleigh, Isaiah, Khloe, Braxton, Lyla, Kaydence; two sisters: Marlyn Blake, and Estelle Bramblett; sister-in-law, Betty Hamilton; lifelong friend, Marj Miller.
Dorthea was preceded in death by her parents, Loren “Bunk” Hoyt, daughter Janice Hoyt, grandson Scottie Lewandowski, siblings Harry Hamilton, Annabelle Laird, Billy Hamilton, and Jerry Hamilton.
