Age 83, of Flushing and Charlevoix, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home on Monday, April 10, 2017.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth. William was an extremely loving father to sons Michael (Diana) Martin, Mark Martin, daughters, Katherine Liggett, Marilyn Callan and MaryBeth (Robert) Neumann. He was a wonderful, supportive grandfather to Leah and Shanna Callan, Justin and Casey Liggett, Allison and Katharine Martin, Kristin, Chase and Lily Ross and step-grandchildren Georgi, Ashley, Abby Neumann and great-granddaughter, Olive.
Bill was born and raised in Flint, Michigan, the son of Clarence and Veronica Martin. He attended St Michael’s Catholic school and Central Michigan University where he played football. He went on to graduate from Worsham College of Mortuary Science. Bill served in the Army at Fort Lee in Petersburg, Virginia.
Bill was an entrepreneur, starting his own packaging business in 1966, Compak/Webcor of Flint and Durand, Michigan. His success in business can be attributed to his work ethic and his natural mechanical ability. He developed a patent on a three in one manufacturing process which he was most proud of.
Bill loved boating in Charlevoix and spending the winters in Boca Grande, Florida. He loved spending time with his family and his many friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:00 am, Friday, April 14, 2017, at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Flushing. The family will be present to receive friends at Martin Funeral, Cremation and Tribute Service in Mt. Morris on Thursday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. On Thursday evening, family, friends, and parish will gather at the funeral home to pray the Rosary at 6:00 pm. On Friday morning, Mr. Martin will be taken to church to lie in state from 9:00 am until the time of Funeral Mass at 10:00 am.
