Delbert Lester Phelps, age 80, of Flint, died Friday, January 6, 2017. The funeral service will take place at 1:00 pm, Monday, January 9, 2017, at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Chaplin Adam Doyle will officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. Delbert’s family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends on Sunday from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and again on Monday from 12:00 noon until the time of service at 1:00 pm. Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Genesee County Humane Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Delbert was born February 20, 1936, in Richfield Center, Michigan, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles and Gertrude (Miller) Phelps. He and Carol Schram were united in marriage on August 11, 1961 in Flint, MI. Delbert worked for Buick City as a truck repair man for many years before retiring. He belonged to the UAW Local #599. Delbert enjoyed fishing, camping, skiing, and boating. He had a big heart for animals. Delbert will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Carol; children: Robert (Cathy) Phelps, Debbie (Randy) Prouty; six grandchildren: Danielle (Chad Huffman) Phelps, Donald (Brittney Coplin) Phelps, Ann Marie (Brion Ward) Renfro, Tiffany Prouty, Nicole Prouty, and Nick Prouty; seven great-grandchildren; brother: David (Trudy) Phelps; many nieces and nephews.
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, son, Wayne Phelps, brother, Lyman Phelps and sister, Thelma Abbott
