Obituary of Jean Louise Slattery

Age 86, of Mt. Morris, died Monday, November 14, 2016, at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am, Friday, November 18, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau, Rev. William Slattery, and Deacon Michael Dear will concelebrate with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Jean’s family will receive friends at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris, on Wednesday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Thursday from 12:00 noon until 8:00 pm. On Thursday evening, family, friends and parish will gather at the funeral home for a Rosary at 6:00 pm. On Friday morning, Jean will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to St. Mary’s Church or School. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Jean was born May 31, 1930, in Flint, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emil and Eloise (Thomson) Tabbert. Her family moved to the Mt. Morris community when Jean was six years old and she would attend Mt. Morris Schools, graduating with the Class of 1948. As a young woman, she was introduced to Bill Slattery through mutual friends. They dated, fell in love and were united in marriage August 9, 1952, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Jean worked as a clerk for Michigan Church Supply in Mt. Morris from 1979 until retiring in 1992. She was a great cook, enjoyed playing cards, especially Pinochle, reading, has travelled to Ireland, Italy and Hawaii, and loved her family dearly. Left to cherish her memory are: her husband on 64 years, Bill Slattery, seven children, Michael and wife, Cherryl Slattery, David and wife, Roxanne Slattery, Dennis Slattery, Ann and husband, Dale Killion, Paula and husband, Terry Daniel, Bill and wife, Charlotte Slattery and Mary Slattery and husband, Scott Hoyt, 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, special friends, Paul and Betty Harcz and Faith Corcoran, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jean was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Robert and wife Georgia Tabbert, Jerry Tabbert and Donald Tabbert,
