Obituary of Kathleen Mae Matthews

Kathleen Mae Matthews, 83, passed away the evening of August 4, 2016 peacefully at her home. Kathleen was born to Gordon and Olive Strickert on November 21, 1932 in Flint Michigan. She was the youngest of four siblings. After attending Mt. Morris High School, she married Edward Brian Matthews in November 25, 1949, and they had 7 children. She was the loving mother of Dennis (Sue) Matthews, Karl Matthews, Steven (Jan) Matthews, Bryan (Sue) Matthews, Bruce (Aimee) Matthews, Kathleen Ruth Matthews and Elizabeth McLone all residing in Michigan. There are also 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Kathleen, also known as Katie by family and friends, was a lifetime homemaker. In her later years, she loved her flowers and watching the many birds that would come to her bird feeders. She will be remembered for her never ending spirit and her glowing smile. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward (1990), parents Gorden and Olive, sister Hazel Johnson (2016), brothers Melvin (2013) and Elmer (2001), son Karl (2009) and son-in-law Jim McLone (2012). Special thanks goes out to Belinda and the other Hospice care professionals. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Kathleen’s family will be present at the funeral home on Monday to receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 3:00 pm then from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Pastor John Southern officiating with burial to follow at Flint Memorial Park.
