William “Bill” A. Babcock, age 90, of Vassar, died Friday, August 5, 2016, at Aleda E. Lutz Veterans Affairs Medical Center of Saginaw. An Eagles Memorial Service will begin 1:00pm, Tuesday, August 9, 2016, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar. Pastor Jerry Pfeiffer officiating with cremation to follow. Bill’s family will be present at the funeral home on Tuesday, to receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm.
Bill was born June 16, 1926, in Sandusky, Michigan, the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Edward and Ada (McMann) Babcock. Bill proudly served in the United States Navy, from January 18, 1946 until retiring with his honorable discharge on July 17, 1988. He married Evelyn Shaffer on August 5, 1955, in Flint. Sadly, she preceded him in death on July 10, 2007. He worked for Fisher Body I as a Pipefitter for many years, retiring in 1985. Bill was a member of Vassar Eagles Aerie #2380, Moose Lodge #1014-Ocala, Florida, life-member VFW #4164-Caro, American Legion #0164-Millington, FRA, TREA and NERA. In his free time, Bill enjoyed spending time with family and friends, listening to country music and building houses.
Left to cherish his memory are, sister, Norma Wright; many nieces and nephews; grandchildren: Dan Morrison, Bill (Jaquelyn) Morrison, Joe Morrison, Amber (Ron) Johnson, and Zack Morrison; and family friend, Joann Lackowski.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife Evelyn, step-son Dan Morrison, brother Edward Babcock and his sister-in-law Elaine Babcock.
