Obituary of Mary Catherine Smith

Age 92, of Houghton Lake, died Sunday, June 12, 2016, at The Brook Retirement Communities in Houghton Lake. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services-Genesee Twp. Burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm. Those desiring may make memorial contributions in Mary’s memory to The American Cancer Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Mrs. Smith was born August 16, 1923 in Flint to the late Mr. & Mrs. Melvin and Lucy Ellen (Bronson) Westfall. Mary was a member of the Davison Eagles Aerie #3589. She enjoyed doing crafts, cooking and being an all-around sweet person. Left to cherish her memory are her son, David L. and wife, Kelly Wakefield; Ten grandchildren, Steve, Molly, Libby, Tim, Terri and husband, Homer, Tina and husband, Brian, Gale and husband, Paul, Kim, Don and wife, Bridget, and Kylea; sister, Genevieve Robinson; brother, Bill and wife, Joyce Canfield; brother-in-law, Tom and wife, Phyllis Smith; several great grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Joseph Calvin Smith, and Donald C. Wakefield; daughter, Joan; son, Wayne; grandson, Travis Wakefield; brother, Marshall Westfall; brother-in-law, Clarence and wife, Tootsie Smith.
