Obituary of Velma Geraldine Hackney (Neeley)

Age 68, of Copemish died Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Munson Hospice House of Traverse City, MI. A celebration of life and time to share memories will take place on Monday, March 28, 2016 at 1:30 pm at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services-Mt. Morris with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. The family will be present to receive friends on Monday from 10:30 am until time of celebration at 1:30 pm at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services-Mt. Morris. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Jeri’s family. Mrs. Hackney was born February 18, 1948 in Holcomb, Missouri to the late Mr. & Mrs. Ollie and Mary (Graham) Neeley. Jeri was the middle of the 17 children in her family. She married Daniel Hackney on December 9, 1977, sadly he preceded her in death on May 23, 2013. Jeri loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and, dogs. She also enjoyed painting, reading, nature, camping, and anything to do with the outdoors. She was the co-owner of Mid-Michigan Lock & Safe in Flint for 30 years. Left to cherish her memory are her five children: Ben and wife, Julie Mitchell, Lou Freeman, Eric and wife, Kirsten Ross, Aaron Hackney, and Tracy and husband, Robert Bancroft; 13 grandchildren: Tyler, Megan, Lucas, Kayla, Paul, David, Ian, Stella, Allison, Cody, Dakota, Alyssa, and Brandon; Great grandson, Carter; special friends: Beth Ross, Mark Delong, Mercedes Erwin, Joe and wife, Sui-Lin Harper, Jeff Gale, and Paul Freeman; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Jeri was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Daniel.
