Obituary of John Mowat Love

John Mowat Love of Grand Blanc, Michigan, age 62, died on Monday, March 14, 2016, after a hard-fought illness. A memorial service will be held at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Grand Blanc on Friday, March 18, 2016, at 1:00 pm. John’s family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, from 12:00 Noon until the time of service at 1:00 pm. John was born on September 8, 1953, in Coatbridge, Airdrie, Scotland to Rachael (Richardson) Love and John Mowat Love. Following his father’s untimely death, he was raised by his mother and stepfather, James. In 1976, John moved to Flint to attend General Motors Institute, where he met Susan (Lichty). They had three children, Carrie, Ian, and Fiona. John loved to spend time with his family and many hours were spent together on holidays and celebrations with extended family. He enjoyed traveling the world, drinking wine and exploring new places as he worked in Poland, Japan, China, and Portugal, among others. When he married Barbara, the two of them spent many years hosting holidays and summer parties for their family and friends. They enjoyed cooking and entertaining, and their table always had room for one more. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his sisters, Lorna (Gordon), Eleanor (Archie), and Elizabeth (David); his brother, Jim (Joan); his first wife, Susan (John); and his children, Carrie (Rob), Emily (Tim), Fiona (Brian), Ian (Kirsten), John, and Kelly; grandchildren, Aria, Avery, Adam, Chloe, Isaac, Ellery, Luke, Olivia, and Sarah; many beloved nieces and nephews in the States and in Scotland, and his dear rescue dog, Wynston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Genesee County Food Bank or to Leader Dogs for the Blind of Rochester Hills. Raising a glass of wine in his honor would also be fitting.
