Karen A. Johnson-Bloom age 71, of Flint, died Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at Fostrian Manor in Flushing. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Karen’s Life will be held 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Genesee Twp. Reverend Monica M. Villarreal officiating. Memorial donations may be directed to Salem Lutheran Church or the Genesee County Humane Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Karen was born in Flint, Michigan, on March 28, 1944; the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence and Aini (Korpi) Johnson. Growing up in Flint, she was educated locally and would go on to earn her teaching certificate, from the University of Michigan. Karen educated students in the City of Flint for 33 years, before retiring, from Freeman Elementary School. She spent the last portion of her career teaching kindergarten. In her free time, Karen enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, spoiling her pets, traveling and making jewelry.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Ellen Marie MacKinnon; sister-in-law, Jeanette Johnson; nephews and nieces, Robert MacKinnon, David and wife, Pat Johnson, Kathryn and husband, Paul Loiselle, Ann and husband, Andy Walker and James and wife, Barb MacKinnon; daughter by heart, Marcie and husband, R.D. Reamy; and several cousins; great nephews and nieces and many wonderful friends.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Aini Johnson; brother, Clarence “Buck” Johnson and brother-in-law, Robert MacKinnon.
