Obituary of Ruby V. McCourtney

Age 95, of Flint, formerly of Davison, died Monday, January 25, 2016, at Hurley Medical Center in Flint. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at 12:00 pm, at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Morris. Pastor Bruce Billing to officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. The family will be present for visitation on Friday, January 29, 2016, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services-Genesee Twp. from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. They will also be present on Saturday at church from 11:00 am until time of service at 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ruby’s memory to the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Morris. Ruby was born October 29, 1920, to the late Reuben and the late Nellie (Crocker) Stratton. She and Dave McCourtney were united in marriage, sadly he preceded her in death in 2000. She retired from General Motors, Ternstedt Division and was the Recording Secretary for the Flint Area Retiree Council for 25 years. Ruby was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Morris, UAW Local 326, and UAW Region 1-C. In 2009, Ruby received the Women of Achievement of YWCA Award, for her contributions while with the UAW Region 1-C. In her spare time, Ruby enjoyed sewing, knitting, and quilting. Left to Cherish Ruby’s memory are her two children: Debbie Ann and the late Rev. Wayne Ferrigan, and Dennis and wife Teri McCourtney; a sister, Helen Birdsey; five grandchildren: Patrick and wife Nancy, Katie, Bridget and husband Alex, Ruben, Tara and husband Bud; and three great grandchildren: Hannah, Gracie, and one expected from Patrick and Nancy. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Dave McCourtney; two brothers: William Stratton, and Jay Charles Stratton; and one son-in-law, Rev. Wayne Ferrigan.
