Obituary of Clarence Walter Thorpe

Of Genesee, age 87, went home to be with the Lord, on Saturday, November 21, 2015, at his home surrounded by family. Funeral service will take place 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Genesee Township, Pastor Dan Thorpe will officiate, with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, from 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm and on Tuesday, from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may direct memorial contributions to Genesee Township Johnson Memorial Library. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Clarence was born October 31, 1928 in Flint, Michigan the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford and Bernice (Kimmerer) Thorpe. He and June Thorpe were united in marriage May 14, 1949. Clarence worked for General Motors for 39 years, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed spending time with his family at their Cabin on Sage Lake making wonderful memories together. Clarence valued going hunting, fishing, and he had a passion for woodworking. Left to cherish his memory, three children, Bill and wife, Ora Thorpe, Coleen and husband, Don Beamish and Matt and wife, Tammie Thorpe; seven grandchildren, Russell, John, Julie, Lisa, Daniel, Thomas, and Joseph; six great-grandchildren; brother Howard and wife Barbara Thorpe; and also many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife of 65 years June, parents; siblings, Vernon, Theda, and Janet.
