Obituary of Joseph A. Hascall, Sr.

Age 77, of Mayville, died Sunday, September 6, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family. The funeral service will take place 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 10, 2015, at the Martin Funeral Home – Vassar. Pastor Roger Hazen will officiate with cremation to follow. Joseph’s family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends on Wednesday, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Thursday from 11:00 am until time of service at 2:00 pm. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to the McLaren Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Joseph was born March 10, 1938, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Cecil and Marian (View) Hascall. He and Martha Staley were united in marriage on September 20, 1958, in Columbiaville, Michigan. Joseph's career path would first lead him to Eaton Foundry in Vassar for eight years before transferring to General Motors in Pontiac. He worked for Central Foundry for 18 years prior to retiring in 1989. In his free time, Joseph loved being with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending time hunting, fishing and gardening, and he could often be found playing Bingo and watching the Detroit Tigers. Left to cherish his memory are: his loving wife of 56 years, Martha; seven children: Lori (Dwight) Linder, Clare (Kathleen) Hascall, Catherine (Keith) DuBois, Judith Hascall, Joseph Hascall, Jr., Mark Hascall and Kimberley (Leroy) Amend; three brothers: Jack (Llynda) Hascall, Gerald (Lori) Hascall and Robert (Joyce) Hascall; special sister-in-law, Della Staley; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and special friends, Fred (Doris) Grover. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, brother, James Hascall, and grandson, Vincent DuBois.
