Allen, Sue Ann, “Elizabeth Sue A. Allen” age 85, of Vassar Township died Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at United Hospice Residence in Marlette.
Funeral service will be held 1:00 pm at Martin Funeral Home in Vassar, Rev. Fr. Kenneth Yaroch will officiate with cremation to follow. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 11:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm.
Sue was born in Flint Michigan on May 25, 1930. She spent much of her life in New York where she trained and showed horses. During that time she attended college in New York and went on to teach and work at Columbia University. She also taught adult education at various locations.
Sue was an avid animal lover and an accomplished equestrian. Having both trained and showed in her horse career. Going on to open her own riding and training facility by the name of “School of Horsemanship” in E. Fishkill, NY. During her life, Sue taught many children and adults the art of proper horsemanship.
In 1967/1968 she received “certificate of membership” into the Third Order of ST. FRANCIS of St. Joseph Fraternity in Flint, Michigan. This confirming her as a Roman Catholic Franciscan. She was most recently a member of St. Francis of Cabrini church in Vassar, Michigan, where she lived the final years of her life.
Sue was an avid author and photographer. Having published a book with Alpine Publishing called “How to use LEG WRAPS, BANDAGES and BOOTS”. A manual of supportive leg care for working horses. She has written other books and stories and had published in horse magazines during different times in her life.
