Obituary of Michael E. Ellis

Michael “Big Mike” E. Ellis, age 72, of Mt. Morris, formerly of Flint, died Monday, July 20, 2015, at home surrounded by his family. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 7:00 pm, Friday, July 24, 2015, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services-Genesee Township. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, from 4:00 pm until time of service at 7:00 pm. Memorial donations may be directed to Powers Catholic High School Athletic Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Michael was born June 24, 1943, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest and LaVeida (Alexander) Ellis. Michael proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Flint and went to work on Plant Security at Chevy in the Hole, retiring with 35 years of service, in 1992. While employed at GM, Michael also drove bus for Powers Catholic High School. After retirement, Michael went to work for the MTA driving bus for 10 years. On May 8, 1999, Michael and Debra Maynard were united in marriage in Fenton. Michael enjoyed spending time with his family, watching high school football, hunting and fishing. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Debra; children, Michael T. and wife, Peggy G. Ellis, Matthew D. Ellis, Mary Elizabeth Ellis and fiancé, Mark Redmond and Ryan Maynard; grandchildren, Morgan and Max Ellis, Olivia Winford, and Weiland; sisters, Bettelu and husband, Ron Center and Marilee Knorr; brother, John and wife, Claudia Ellis; longtime friends, Bill and Dee Fox and several nieces; nephews and friends. Michael was preceded in death by his parents; and father-in-law, Leman Maynard.
