Obituary of Joy Blossom

Joy Lorraine Shepard Blossom went peacefully to her eternal home on Monday, June 22, 2015. She was surrounded by the love of her family and friends. Joy was born October 9, 1929, to Melvin and Lena (Daniels) Shepard. She was a founding member of Saginaw Valley Community Church where she served in many roles alongside of her husband, Dr. David Blossom. In August 1955, Joy married the love of her life, Dr. David K. Blossom. They shared 55 years of love and laughter together until he preceded her in death in 2010. Joy was a graduate of Baker Business College and also received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Bob Jones University. She taught English and Spanish in Davenport, Iowa and Clio, Michigan. Joy was preceded in death by her parents Lena and Melvin Shepard, her siblings Lela Misner, Thelma Stanley, Erma Bourgeois, Forest Shepard, Clare Sheppard, Elwin Shepard, Laurel Shepard, and her beloved husband, Dr. David Blossom. She is survived by her siblings Basil Shepard (Geri) and Wilma Workman, her children Jeanne Blossom Churnesky and Julie Blossom Hunt, her grand children Shawn and Samantha Churnesky, Brian Churnesky, Jeremy Churnesky, Melanie Coyle, Jessica Hunt, and Jacqueline Hunt, and 5 great grandchildren. Joy lived her life as a wonderful example of Christ's love for others. She welcomed everyone into her home and her life with open arms. Arrangements are being handled by Martin Funeral Home of Vassar, MI, where the family will receive those who wish to pay their respects on Wednesday, June 24 from 4-8 p.m. Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Vassar, MI on Thursday June 25, at 11 a.m. with a viewing at 10:00 a.m. The burial will be at Vassar Riverside Cemetery immediately following the service. Pastor David Somers and Reverend James Secord will officiate. Memorials may be made to Shaklee Cares or Protestant Youth Organization Adoption Agency/Christian Family Services of Southfield, MI.
