Obituary of Odd E. Handeland

Odd E. Handeland, age 79, of Mt. Morris died Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Odd Handeland was born October 11, 1935, in Lyngdal Norway, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Tobias and Borghild (Hansen) Handeland. Odd moved to New York with his family when he was 13 years old. He has traveled all over the United States working as a master carpenter. Odd proudly earned his United States citizenship in 1997. He worked for Caruso Construction in Flint, for 35 years until his retirement in 2003. He was a member of the Michigan Carpenters Local #706 and a proud 40 - year gold member of the Sons of Norway. In his free time, Odd enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing all over Michigan and Norway, woodworking and gardening. Left to cherish his memory are, his life partner of 17 years, Susan Callahan-Vara; Eva daughter, Handeland and her husband, Jon Kusnir, and his son, Eric Handeland; three grandchildren: Monica, Kent and Eva Therese Handeland; brother, Bjarne Handeland; extended family: Paul Vara, Karen Halvorsen, Patty Sebald and Jim Harker; and many other family members and friends.
