Flint, Michigan, died Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at Genesys Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Monday, April 20, 2015, at Hopewell General Baptist Church, 5162 N. Belsay Road, Flint. Pastor Scott Southerland will officiate with cremation to follow. Private burial will take place at Tanner Cemetery. Family will receive friends at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Genesee Township on Saturday, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Sunday, 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm. On Monday, Karen will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. Memorial donations may be directed to Hopewell General Baptist Church- Kitchen Ministry. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.
Karen was born April 3, 1944, in Flint, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keith and Dorothy Gearhart. Karen married Jim Netterfield on December 14, 1962, in Flint. They owned and operated Jack's Netterfield Concessions, until their retirement in 2013. She was a member of the NICA, MFEA, Otisville TOPS, and the East Flint Lions Auxiliary. Karen was also an active member of Hopewell General Baptist Church. She loved cooking for her church, family and friends. In her later years Karen took on scrapbooking. Karen was a loving wife, mother, and most importantly, Nana, and Gi-Gi.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Jim Netterfield Jr.; daughter, Tami and husband, Luke Prost, son-in-law, Scott Southerland; grandchildren, Michael, Austin and wife, Hannah, Brittani, Shelby and husband, Anthony, Emily, and Cody; great-grandchildren, Liam and Deacon; sisters, Vida Brown and Carol Westin; sister-in-law, Nancy and husband, Tom Travis; brother-in-law, Gary Schmidt; and many nieces; nephews; cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; and daughter, Pam Southerland.
