Obituary of June Marie Thorpe

Of Burton, age 86, went home to be with the Lord, on Sunday, March 29, 2015, at her home surrounded by family. Funeral service will take place 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Genesee Township, Rev. Karen Williams will officiate, with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm and on Wednesday, from 10:00 am until time of service. Memorial donations may be directed to Genesee United Methodist Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. June was born in Port Huron, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George and Mary Ellen (Gordon) Kersey on December 17, 1928. She and Clarence Thorpe were united in marriage on May 14, 1949. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper until her retirement. She was a member of the Genesee United Methodist Church, a Lioness in Genesee and a member of the Friends of the Library in Genesee. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, ceramics and baking. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 65 years, Clarence; three children, Bill and wife, Ora Thorpe, Coleen and husband, Don Beamish and Matt and wife, Tammie Thorpe; seven grandchildren, Russell, John, Julie, Lisa, Daniel, Thomas, and Joseph; six great-grandchildren; sister, Jeanne and husband, Clarence Darnell; and many special nieces; nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. The family would like to thank Medical Team Hospice for the wonderful care given to June.
