Obituary of Lyle Schermerhorn

Lyle Schermerhorn, age 84, of Mt. Morris died Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at Maple Woods Manor of Clio. The funeral service will take place 2:00 pm on Monday, March 9, 2015, at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris with cremation to follow. Lyle’s family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 12: 00 noon until time of service at 2:00 pm. Those desiring may consider memorial contribution to the staff at Maple Woods Manor. Lyle was born July 5, 1930, in Barton, Michigan, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Giles and Edna (Westenburg) Schermerhorn. He married Lois “His Boss” Light on June 1, 1985, in Mt. Morris. Lyle proudly served in the United States Navy for 9 years until receiving his honorable discharge on December 12, 1956. He worked at Chevy-In-The-Hole for 30 years until retiring in 1986, and was a long time member of UAW Local #659. In his free time, Lyle enjoyed spending time with his Lois, family, friends and fishing. Left to cherish his memory is his Love of his life and “His Boss” of 30 years, Lois; four children: William and his son, William, Jr. and his children: Justis, Aspen, Reyna and Mischa; James and his son, Jeremy and his fiancée, Allison; Kathy and husband, Michael Wauters and their two children: Michael and his fiancée, Ashleigh and Nicholas; Jodie and husband, Ronald Nanni and their three children: Ronald and wife, Briana and their daughter, LiLiana Lee; Steven and wife, Megan and their daughter, Abigail; and Zachary. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Walter and Henry, three sisters: Bernie, Louella and Beatrice. The family would like to extend a Special Thank You to the entire staff at Maplewood Manor for all the wonderful care they gave.
