While I didn't know Mr. McKeller, I felt compelled to write after reading that he was a member of (I'm sure is) the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 11th Airborne. If he was on the Los Banos Prison Camp Raid freeing the 2100 internees, I can tell you that he is a true HERO. My father was a member of H Company and my guess that Mr. MeKeller was B company which jumped on the Camp that on February 23, 1945, the same day the flag was raised on Iwo Jimo (which is why it didn't get press). I would invite the family to read a book called The Los Banos Prison Camp Raid by Gordon Rottman. It will detail what Mr. McKeller did that day. He would have served in 3 other campaigns from Leyte then Luzon, all in the Philippine Islands. He is a true hero. And I'll bet he went on to enjoy a full long prosperous life. I know this is a celebration of a great man. These paratroopers will forever be heroes to me. I wish I would have known Mr. McKeller. Thank you for allowing me to comment.

I was a neighbor, and friend to Joe's at Hidden Valley Ranch, and really enjoyed his friendship until he returned North, I'm so sorry I did not keep in contact with Joe and Iola after they left. We had many great times with them, here in the park, and it hurt me so to see Joe go from an Active person to one in pain after he had fallen, I always admired his stamina he had at his age, and whished I could only have half that at my age, 24 years his junior. All my prayers will be going out to Iola and Joe's family. I know that Joe and Portia will be together in Heaven having a good time like they had here on Earth as friend and neighbor. They have both reached there Goal of Eternal life. God Bless You All.
