Obituary of Virginia Louise Farnum

Virginia Louise Farnum, age 79, of Vassar, died Friday, July 11, 2014. The funeral will be held 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Martin Funeral Home-Vassar with cremation to follow. Virginia’s family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends on Tuesday from 12:00 pm until 8:00 pm. On Wednesday, from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers please consider memorial contributions to the family.
Virginia was born October 14, 1934, in Crawford County, Kansas. She is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. James and Alfreda (Sevart) Purdon. Virginia was salutatorian of her class, graduating in 1953. She married Bruce Farnum on October 27, 1956, in Kansas City, Missouri. Virginia enjoyed spending time with her family and friends especially her grandchildren, flower and vegetable gardening, making quilts for her loved ones, relaxing with a crossword puzzle, watching the Detroit Tigers and MSU football and basketball games.
Left to cherish her memory are; her husband, Bruce; five children, Janice (Jeffrey) Bradley, Tim (Mary) Farnum, Bruce Farnum, Joyce (Suleiman) El-Barakat and James (Tammy) Farnum; 12 grandchildren Danielle, Mike, Chris, Gary Jr., Ian, Laith, Menwa, Greg, Isaac, Rachel, Kate, and Jackson; and seven great-grandchildren; five siblings, Patricia Talbert, Kate Wendt, Mary (Lamar) Nick, Barbara (Thomas) Kovack, Frank (Betty) Purdon and Charles (Morna) Purdon; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Joseph and Harold Purdon and her granddaughter, Adalin James Farnum.
