Of Mt. Morris, age 80, died Monday, June 22, 2009 at Brians House Hospice. The funeral service will take place 11:00am, Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Mt. Morris. Pastor Mike Sanders will officiate with graveside Military Honors conducted by American Legion Clio Post #158 in Flint Memorial Park. BobAaas family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 1:00pm until 9:00pm. On Thursday, Bob will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00am until time of service at 11:00am. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to BrianAaas House in Davison or to the First Baptist Church of Mt. Morris. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.
Robert "Bob" was born September 6, 1928 in Flint Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry and Harriet (Auker) Smith. He and Marian Mathews were united in marriage November 04, 1950 in Flint, Michigan. Bob was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Morris, where he served on the church board; he was also an Usher and drove the Sunday school bus. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War before receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1952. Bob worked for Buick for 36 years before retiring in 1982. He was also a member of UAW local #599. After retiring, Bob kept himself busy driving cars for Heidebreicht dealership, and delivering donuts to the shops from ChuckAaas Bakery.
Bob leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Marian, three children; Laura (Jim) Frary, Charles (Linda) Smith and Judy (Wylie) Tredway, 5 grandchildren; Jason Blakey, Julie (Kevin) Connelly, Mark (Heidi) Killbreath, Jason (Martha) Frary and Brad (Mary) Frary, seven great-grandchildren, one niece Joyce (Art) Perry.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Wanda Kirkey and his brother, Homer Smith. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at BrianAaas House for the wonderful care and support.
