Obituary of Yat Lye Derrick

Of Mt. Morris, age 63, died Monday, April 12, 2010 at Genesys Regional Medical Center. The funeral service will take place 2:00pm, Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the Trinity Assembly of God in Mt. Morris. Pastor Larry Alverson and Pastor Carl Halquist will officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. SallyAaas family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends on Friday, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. On Saturday, Sally will be taken to church to lie in state from 1:00pm until time of service at 2:00pm. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to the Trinity Assembly of God. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Yat Lye "Sally" was born May 20, 1946 in Port Huron, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kum Hong and Antonia (Villejas) Lum. She and James A. Derrick were united in marriage February 12, 1973. He preceded her in death Friday, June 12, 2009. Sally graduated from Port Huron High School, Class of 1965. She decorated cakes at Dawn Donuts until 1997 before working numerous jobs within the Beecher School District, including cafeteria work, bus aide, and custodial duties. Sally enjoyed spending time with her family, attending church and cooking. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons; Joseph and Martin Derrick, six grandchildren; Vincent, Tiana, Jasmine, Isaiah, Madison and Myles, seven siblings; Victor (Bonnie) Martinez, Martha Lum, Robert (Loretta) Lum, Anthony (Mary) Martinez, Josephine (Donald) Woodruff, Amilia Mujadin and Deloris Vasquez; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends; Barbara Caldwell, Sandra Waters, Audrey Allen, Evonne Guillen, Joann Runyan and Betty Russo. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James, brother, Frank and two sisters, Consuelo Heiser and Margaret Ramierez.
