Obituary of Nola Jean Lewis

Of Mt. Morris, age 85, joined the love of her life, George on Sunday, August 8, 2010. A Celebration of Life will take place at 5:00 PM Thursday, August 12, 2010, at Miles Martin Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place. Family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends 3:00 Aaa 5:00 PM. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to Avalon Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Jean was born March 11, 1925 in Moline, Illinois the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace A. and Carol Emily (Davis) Nelson. She and George Lewis were united in marriage June 29, 1951. George preceded her in death April 15, 2002. As a 36 year breast cancer survivor, Jean inspired courage in her daughters who faced the same challenge. She enjoyed spending time with her family and dog Sammy, reading, garage sales, soap operas, crossword puzzles and game shows. Surviving are 5 daughters: Joy Martinbianco, Gay Lewis, Jan and husband Brian Mitchell, Lyn Lewis and Pete, and Kim and husband Tony Sandona. Allyson and husband Jim Howard; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters expected soon; Sisters, Carol and Cliftene; brother-in-law, Gerry Johnson; Special niece Sandy; lifelong friend Gloria Laux. Preceded in death by her parents and husband, George, sisters, Arlene, Verla and Mardelle.
