Of Mt. Morris, age 84, died Monday, September 6, 2010 at his home. The funeral service will take place at 11:00am, Friday, September 10, 2010 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris. Pastor Clifford Jordan will officiate. Burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park with graveside military honors. Family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 9, 2010 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorial contributions to the Grandchildren College Fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Phillip was born in a barn on March 9, 1926 in Flint, Michigan the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl and Winifred (Whitehurst) Gunther. He and Helen Jordan were united in marriage January 10, 1948
Phillip proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II . Later, starting with one dump truck, he built the Gunther Trucking, Inc., from the ground up.
Phillip leaves to cherish his memory, wife of 62 years, Helen; two sons, Phillip Jr. and wife, Greba and Mark and wife, Aleicia; six grandchildren, Galin, Shana, Hannah, Breah, Jacob, and Joshua; four great-grandchildren, Madison, Kelly, Logan, and Lillyana; two brothers, Eugene and wife, Billie and Noel and wife, Joanne; five sisters, Shirley, Ruth, Mary and husband, Earl, Martha and husband, Ned, and Harriet and husband, Bob Sr.; man's best friend, Flipper; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Cory; five brothers, Fred, Ike, Bud, Jake, and Dick; and one sister, Millie.
