My condolences to the family Mrs. Van Wormer I had her as a teacher in the 50's and remember her very well. It is sad that we do not have teachers like her in the schools today.

I am sad to hear of Mrs. VanWormer's homegoing .. except to know that she lived a wonderful long life and touched thousands of "kid's " lives. I was blessed to have her as my second grade teacher back in the stone ages at Genesee. She always encouraged us as students throughout out lives all the way through school and beyond. You could always go to her for help or advise. Mrs. Baker, Mr. Hass and Mrs. VanWormer all gave me "whacks" that I totally deserved. I loved them all very much and appreciate their guidance in my life. \

Mrs. VanWormer was my former Principal at Haas Elementary. She left a lasting impression on me, as she greeted me daily with a warm smile and a "good morning". As I left for the evening she again would be waiting by the door to say "have a good evening and I will see you here again tomorrow morning". She never hesitated to hug me or offer me a smile. I always felt as though I was most important to her. As a teacher now, I make sure I take time to greet each of my students in the morning and offer a personal compliment to each of them as they leave for the evening. It was her fine example of showing the importance of this, that gave me the opportunity to give this to my children. I too would sit on her lap when I would go with my parents to their monthly bowling league where Mrs. VanWormer and her husband also bowled. I remember thinking how special it was to be able to sit on "The Principal's" lap. (Even though my dad was also a principal of another school.) Even today as I drive to my parent's home in Genesee, I still see the white and black house on the top of the hill on Gregor Street, and know that it will always be Mr. and Mrs. VanWormer's home.\
I cherish these memories and hope that your knowing how she touched my life and did make a difference to me ,offers you comfort. My thoughts are with you,her family and dear friends at this time.\
Respectfully and with sympathy,\
